Activity During WWII

He enlisted August 15, 1940 in Jackson, Mississippi. He was a member of the 41st Infantry Regiment, one of the core units of the 2nd Armored Division. He was promoted to Technical Sergeant in January 1942. His Division saw action in North Africa and Sicily, then were sent to England in preparation for the Allied Invasion of Normandy. His Division landed at Omaha Beach June 9, 1944 (3 days after the initial landings). He was a Purple Heart recipient for injuries received in France. Other medals received were the WWII Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal and American Theater Service Medal. His Regiment also received 4 Presidential Unit Citations. He was honorably discharged December 5, 1945.
