Pearl Harbor Survivor. During the Japanese attack on December 7, 1941, he was a teletype operator in the Navy Yard Signal Tower which overlooked all of Pearl Harbor and Hickham Field. Later he was assigned to the USS Rutland (APA-192), as the Chief Radioman. The Rutland landed the assault wave of Marines at the Battle of Iwo Jima, participated in the Invasion of Okinawa, and was present in Tokyo Bay for the Surrender of Japan Ceremony.
