Staff Sergeant. Served in the U.S. Army from September 18, 1943 to May 8, 1946. Inducted in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Sent to Fort Sill, Oklahoma for staging, and then on to Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia. Assigned to Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas for two college quarters to complete selected premedical courses. Subsequently reassigned to the Borden General Hospital in Chickasha, Oklahoma and worked as a Medical Corpsman until August 1944. Sent to Oklahoma City until May 1945 where he received one year of medical education at the Oklahoma University Medical School, and then transported to Camp Crowder, Missouri for staging. Transported to Honolulu, Hawaii, and served as Chief of the Medical Dispensary for the Hawaiian Ordnance Base, 346th Ordnance Battalion, until April 1946. Flew back to Ft Leavenworth, Kansas and was discharged. Awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Campaign Medal, and the World War II Victory Ribbon.
