He joined the Navy in San Diego upon graduating from High School. 1943, stationed on Destroyer USS Colhoun DD-801, which was sunk. Then transferred to Guam, taught at Flight School, San Diego, Fleet Air Wing, San Diego. Served on the USS Yorktown, USS Scanner AGR-5. Taught at Great Lakes Electronics, promoted to Chief Warrant Officer and a Limited Duty Officer, Lieutenant.
