Active service January 24, 1944. Trained as an engineer at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Sent to Europe August 8, 1944. Assigned to Company C, 51st armored Infantry Battalion. Became a rifleman. Seriously wounded December 1, 1944, the Battle of Bulge. Returned to the U.S. April 19, 1945. Disability discharge February 18, 1948 from Walter Reed General Hospital in Washington, D.C. Recipient of the Combat Infantryman Badge, Purple Heart, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
