Served aboard the U.S.S. Turner, DD 648; U.S.S. New York, BB 34; and the U.S.S. Walke, DD 723. Trained in boot camp at Great Lakes, Illinois. Participated in the D-Day Invasion, the Invasion of France, plus five major battles in the Pacific. Also participated in the Occupation of Japan. Was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, an American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Area Medal with four stars, and the European African Middle Eastern Medal with one star.
