Enlisted on December 2, 1942 at Fort McPherson, Georgia. He Attended parachute school at Fort Benning in 1943. Served in the European Theater of Operations. Stationed in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was with the 82nd Airborne Unit on D-Day. Received degree of Knight 4th class Netherlands, 82nd airborne division belgium fourragere, the American Theater Ribbon, the European-African-Middle Eastern service medal with 1 Arrowhead, the Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal, the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantryman Badge and Jump Wings. Qualified with an M-1 rifle, M-1 Carbine and Light Machine Gun. Honorably discharged in November 11, 1945 at Camp Gordon, Georgia.
