Completed Basic Training at the U.S. Naval Training Station, Great Lakes Illinois and attended the University of Purdue for his Electrical Training. Served as an Electrician aboard the Destroyer, USS Hamilton in the North Atlantic Theater of Operations and later assigned to the Destroyer, USS Knapp in the South Pacific Theater of Operations. Participated in the Invasions of the Marshall Islands, Okinawa and Guam.
