Activity During WWII

John F. Dunn entered the U. S. Army in 1942, received basic training at Camp Carson Colorado, then completed Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia, in March 1943. Following six months training at Fort Polk, Louisiana, 2LT Dunn deployed to England where he continued Infantry Training until deployed to France in June 1944. He served with infantry units in Belgium and Germany, then returned home in late 1945. He earned the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star, and five campaign ribbons. Following his discharge he married in his home town of Marcus, Iowa, where he served as Mayor for 19 years and raised four daughters. He died and was buried in Marcus, Iowa in 1983.
