At 19 years old, he went to Schrobenhausen, Germany in June 1945 while serving with the 9th Infantry Division, 47th Infantry Regiment, Company I. Retired from the Army in November 1970 after serving over 24 years. Also, served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
