Dick was stationed at Naval Air Station in Alameda, California. He replaced spark plugs with preservation plugs on the airplanes, when the airplanes came in, to preserve them until they had orders to go out. Then he put the spark plugs back. He switched electrical codes of the bombs to fire a different sequence than before. He also made a map of the air station so he knew where to put the airplanes when they came in.
