ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON APRIL 14, 1941. DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON APRIL 30, 1942 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. SAW ACTION IN THE TUNISIAN, SICILIAN, NAPLES-FOGGIA AND ROME-ARNO CAMPAIGNS; EVENTUALLY AS A RIFLE SQUAD LEADER. RETURNED TO THE U.S. ON AUGUST 4, 1944. EARNED THE COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH FOUR BRONZE BATTLE STARS, THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A STAFF SERGEANT FROM COMPANY B, 133RD BATTALION AT CAMP LIVINGSTON, LOUISIANA ON AUGUST 8, 1945.
