ENLISTED AS AN APPRENTICE SEAMAN AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON 5 NOVEMBER 1943. TRAINED AS FIREMAN AND SERVED ABOARD THE USS LST 651 AND WITH THE AVIATION SUPPLY ANNEX NAVY #3245 ON SAIPAN IN THE PACIFIC. HOSPITALIZED AFTER THIS DUTY AT U.S. NAVAL HOSPITAL, NAVY 10 IN CORVALLIS, OREGON AND GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS. AWARDED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLE DISCHARGE AS A FIREMAN 1ST CLASS ON 20 OCTOBER 1945 AS RECOMMENDED BY A MEDICAL BOARD OF SURVEY.
