ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON JULY 6, 1942 AT SCOTT FIELD, ILLINOIS. TRAINED AS A RIFLEMAN AND ASSIGNED TO I COMPANY, 378TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 95TH INFANTRY 'VICTORY' DIVISION. DEPARTED THE U.S. ON AUGUST 5, 1944 BOUND FOR THE HAMPSHIRE REGION OF ENGLAND AND THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ARRIVED CONTINENT ON SEPTEMBER 19, ENTERED COMBAT ON OCTOBER 20. WOUNDED IN ACTION ON OCTOBER 26, 1944 IN THE MOSELLE REGION OF FRANCE. EVACUATED FROM THE FIELD OF BATTLE FOR TREATMENT AND RETURNED TO THE U.S. ON FEBRUARY 4, 1945 FOR CONVALESCENCE. EARNED THE PURPLE HEART MEDAL, COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED WITH A MEDICAL DISABILITY AS A TECHNICAL SERGEANT ON OCTOBER 19, 1945 AT PERCY JONES HOSPITAL CENTER, FORT CUSTER, MICHIGAN.
