ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON APRIL 8, 1943 AT CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS. TRAINED AS AN AIRCRAFT ARMORER AND DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON FEBRUARY 27, 1943 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. SERVED STATESIDE AND IN ENGLAND, FRANCE AND GERMANY. PARTICIPATED IN THE AIR OFFENSIVE EUROPE, NORMANDY, NORTHERN FRANCE, ARDENNES, RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED TWO PRESIDENTIAL UNIT CITATIONS, THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH SILVER STAR, THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A SERGEANT FROM THE 406TH FIGHTER SQUADRON AND THE SERVICE ON FEBRUARY 20, 1946 AT CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS.
