AFTER BASIC MEDICAL TRAINING AT CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS, JOINED THE MEDICAL DETACHMENT, 941ST FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION AT CAMP SHELBY, MISSISSIPPI AS A SURGICAL TECHNICIAN. AFTER TRAINING AT CAMP IRON MOUNTAIN, CALIFORNIA, DEPARTED FROM BOSTON ON MARCH 24, 1944 FOR ENGLAND. LANDED IN NORMANDY ON JUNE 14, 1944. SUBSEQUENTLY EARNED FIVE CAMPAIGN STARS (NORMANDY, NORTHERN FRANCE, RHINELAND, ARDENNES, CENTRAL EUROPE) FOR SERVICE WITH THE 941ST, INCLUDING THE BATTLES OF NORMANDY, THE FALAISE GAP, THE SIEGFRIED LINE, THE HUERTGEN FOREST, THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE AND RHINE RIVER CROSSING. DISCHARGED FROM THE U.S. ARMY AS A TECHNICIAN 5TH GRADE ON NOVEMBER 27, 1945.
