ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON 18 DECEMBER 1942 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. TRAINED AS A COOK IN THE MEDICAL CORPS AND DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON 12 SEPTEMBER 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. AWARDED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL. HONORABLE DISCHARGE FROM HIS UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT, THE 165TH GENERAL HOSPITAL AT CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS AS A SERGEANT ON 29 MARCH 1946.
