ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON 9 FEBRUARY 1943 AT CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS. TRAINED AND DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON 17 OCTOBER 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ENTERED COMBAT AS A TRANSPORTATION SERGEANT WITH THE 87TH INFANTRY DIVISION ON 13 DECEMBER AS THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE WAS BEGINNING. WOUNDED IN VICINITY OF LIBRAMONT, LUXEMBOURG ON 7 JANUARY 1945. CONTINUED TO SERVE THROUGH ARDENNES, RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED A SILVER STAR MEDAL, THE PURPLE HEART MEDAL, THE COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 3 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL. HONORABLE DISCHARGE AS A SERGEANT ON 22 OCTOBER 1945 AT FORT DIX, NEW JERSEY.
