ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON JUNE 14, 1944 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF RIFLEMAN (745), AND DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON NOVEMBER 23, 1944 AS A REPLACEMENT BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND FOUGHT WITH THE 143RD INFANTRY REGIMENT, 36TH 'PANTHER' INFANTRY DIVISION IN THE RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN 5TH GRADE ON APRIL 4, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP MCCOY, WISCONSIN.
