Activity During WWII

ENLISTED IN FEBRUARY AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON 9 JUNE 1944. TRAINED STATESIDE AT VARIOUS NAVAL BASES AND THEN DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. FOR THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. SERVICED AND RE-SUPPLIED VESSELS AT THE ADVANCED NAVAL BASE AT TULAGI ISLAND AND THEN AT THE NAVAL ADVANCED BASE IN THE RUSSELL ISLANDS. SERVED AS CREW ABOARD THE NEW ORLEANS CLASS HEAVY CRUISER USS TUSCALOOSA CA-37 RETURNING TO THE U.S. AFTER THE WAR. DUE TO A SERIOUS MEDICAL PROBLEM WAS TRANSFERRED TO U.S. NAVAL HOSPITAL 10 AT PEARL HARBOR, HAWAII AND EVENTUALLY AFTER RECUPERATION TO THE NAVAL SHIPYARD AT BREMERTON, WASHINGTON. EARNED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A SEAMAN FIRST CLASS ON 6 JUNE, 1946 AT SAINT LOUIS, MISSOURI.
