ENLISTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON MARCH 14, 1944 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. AFTER BASIC AND ADVANCED TRAINING ASSIGNED ABOARD THE USS BROWN DD-54 IN THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. HOSPITALIZED AT NAVY BASE HOSPITAL 18 (GUAM) FOR A SERIOUS INFECTION AND RETURNED TO THE NAVY HOSPITAL AT CAMP LEJEUNE, NORTH CAROLINA FOR RECUPERATION. EARNED THE COMBAT ACTION RIBBON (AWARDED RETROACTIVELY BY 1999 CONGRESSIONAL LEGISLATION), AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLE DISCHARGE AS A SEAMAN 2ND CLASS ON JUNE 23, 1945 AT NAVY PIER IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
