ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON NOVEMBER 2, 1944 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. AFTER TRAINING AS A CLERK TYPIST (MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY 405) DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON MARCH 23, 1945 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. JOINED THE 414TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 104TH 'TIMBERWOLVES' INFANTRY DIVISION AS A REPLACEMENT IN WESTPHALIA, GERMANY, AND FOUGHT THROUGH THE CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGN. SERVED BRIEFLY WITH THE ARMY OF OCCUPATION AND RETURNED TO THE STATES ON JULY 11, 1945 TO TRAIN FOR THE PLANNED INVASION OF JAPAN AT CAMP LOUIS OBISPO, CALIFORNIA. EARNED THE COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH ONE BRONZE BATTLE STAR, THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL, THE ARMY OF OCCUPATION (GERMANY) MEDAL, AND THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE 1ST CLASS ON AUGUST 22, 1946 AT CAMP BEALE, CALIFORNIA.
