ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS AN ABLE SEAMAN ON JULY 7, 1944 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. TRAINED AT U.S. NAVAL TRAINING STATION, FARRAGUT, IDAHO. SERVED ABOARD THE USS COLLINGSWORTH APA-146 (HASKELL CLASS ATTACK TRANSPORT) IN THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. EARNED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE ASIATIC-PACIFIC CHAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL, AND THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A CARPENTER'S MATE 3RD CLASS ON MARCH 6, 1946 AT GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS.
