ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON 30 OCTOBER 1941 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. TRAINED AS A GUARD PATROLMAN (MOS 522) AND DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON 11 MAY 1942 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. SAW COMBAT WITH THE 1ST ARMORED (OLD IRONSIDES) DIVISION IN THE TUNISIAN AND ALGERIA-FRENCH MOROCCO CAMPAIGNS. WOUNDED IN ACTION AT ORAN ALGERIA ON 8 NOVEMBER 1942 AND AGAIN AT SIDI BON SID TUNISIA ON 14 FEBRUARY 1943. EARNED A SILVER STAR MEDAL, THE PURPLE HEART MEDAL WITH 1 OAK LEAF CLUSTER, THE AMERICAN DEFENSE MEDAL, THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A SERGEANT ON 11 JUNE 1945 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS.
