ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON 29 DECEMBER 1942 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. ATTENDED THE BAKERS AND COOKS SERVICE SCHOOL AND LATER CERTIFIED AS A LIGHT ARTILLERY GUN CREWMAN (MOS 844) WITH BATTERY B, 228TH FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION. DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON 11 AUGUST 1944 AND SERVED IN COMBAT THROUGH RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPEAN CAMPAIGN WITH THE 252ND FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION ATTACHED TO THE 102ND INFANTRY 'OZARK' DIVISION. EARNED A BRONZE STAR MEDAL, THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON 5 NOVEMBER 1945 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS.
