ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON 19 NOVEMBER 1942 AT CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS. TRAINED AS A CRANE OPERATOR (MOS 063) AND SERVED STATESIDE UNTIL DEPARTING THE CONTINENTAL U.S. FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS IN JUNE 1943. SERVED WITH THE 1916TH ORDNANCE AMMUNITION COMPANY (AVIATION). EARNED THE DRIVER AND MECHANIC BADGE, THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL.
