SERVED IN EUROPEAN AND PACIFIC THEATERS AS A RADIOMAN/ PRIVATE FIRST CLASS. RECEIVED TRAINING IN 1943 AT CAMP HOOD, TEXAS FOR BLACK TIGER TANK DESTROYER BATTALION UNDER GENERAL PATTON. FIRST ASSIGNMENT WAS WITH 1ST BATTALION, 94TH DIVISION, 198TH CHEMICAL COMPANY. LANDED IN FRANCE UNDER COMMANDER HERBERT ROSENTHAL. FOUGHT IN 5 MAJOR BATTLES; FRANCE, BELGIUM, GERMANY, AFRICA AND SAIPAN. IN SAIPAN, HE JUMPED INTO A SINKING MUD POND TO SAVE HIS MEN. ALSO TRAINED AS A WELDER, ELECTRICIAN AND MECHANIC. MARKSMAN RIFLEMAN WITH A MK 156. RECEIVED AMERICAN DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN SERVICE MEDAL, SILVER STAR, AND FIVE BATTLE STARS FOR CENTRAL EUROPE AND RHINELAND CAMPAIGNS. HE BROKE A HOLE INTO THE ENEMY AT RHINELAND. WAS PROUD TO SERVE HIS COUNTRY.
