HE SERVED ON BOTH OF THE USS BLOCK ISLAND SHIPS, CVE-21 AND 106 AS AN ELECTRICIAN'S MATE THIRD CLASS FROM JUNE 28, 1943 TO OCTOBER 11, 1945. HE SURVIVED THE SINKING OF THE CVE-21, BY A GERMAN SUBMARINE (U-549) ON THE NIGHT OF MAY 29, 1944 IN THE ATLANTIC OCEAN.
