HE SERVED ON BOTH OF THE USS BLOCK ISLAND SHIPS, CVE-21 AND 106 AS AN ENSIGN; 'R' DIVISION OFFICER, SHIP'S SERVICE OFFICER AND BOMB DISPOSAL OFFICER. HE SURVIVED THE SINKING OF THE CVE-21, BY A GERMAN SUBMARINE (U-549) ON THE NIGHT OF MAY 29, 1944 IN THE ATLANTIC OCEAN.
