ENLISTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON 19 AUGUST 1941 AT FORT CUSTER, MICHIGAN. AFTER BASIC TRAINING AND SPECIALIZATION AS A MAIL CLERK (0560), DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON 5 SEPTEMBER 1941 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. SERVED WITH THE 1ST BASE POST OFFICE AT SUTTON COLDFIELD, WARWICKSHIRE, ENGLAND, UNTIL OPERATION TORCH BEGAN AND HE WENT INTO COMBAT. FOUGHT THROUGH THE NORMANDY CAMPAIGN AND INTO THE NORTHERN FRANCE CAMPAIGN UNTIL WOUNDED IN ACTION ON 19 AUGUST 1944. EVACUATED FROM THE BATTLEFIELD FOR RECUPERATION AND RETURNED TO THE STATES ON 22 SEPTEMBER 1945. EARNED THE PURPLE HEART MEDAL, THE COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, THE AMERICAN DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLE DISCHARGE AS A PRIVATE ON 6 OCTOBER 1945 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS.
