ENLISTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS AN APPRENTICE SEAMAN ON 14 SEPTEMBER 1943 AT XENIA, ILLINOIS. TRAINED AS A FIREMAN AT NAVAL TRAINING STATION FARRAGUT, IDAHO. SERVED ABOARD THE MINE LAYING DESTROYER USS RAMSAY DM-16 AND LATER THE ATTACK TRANSPORT USS ZEILIN APA-3 IN THE ASIATIC-PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. EARNED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLE DISCHARGE AS A WATERTENDER 2ND CLASS ON 6 MAY 1946 AT GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS.
