ENLISTED AS A CARPENTER’S MATE 3RD CLASS ON APRIL 6, 1942 AT THE NAVAL RECRUITING STATION, SAINT LOUIS, MISSOURI. TRAINED AS A SEABEE AT U.S. NAVAL CONSTRUCTION TRAINING CENTER, NAVY OPERATING BASE, NORFOLK, VIRGINIA. SEVERELY WOUNDED BY ENEMY ACTION ON APRIL 25, 1944 WHILE SERVING IN THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. EARNED THE PURPLE HEART MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH BRONZE BATTLE STAR AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED WITH A MEDICAL DISABILITY CERTIFICATE AS A CARPENTER’S MATE 2ND CLASS ON MARCH 28, 1945 AT U.S. NAVAL HOSPITAL, GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS.
