ENLISTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS AN APPRENTICE SEAMAN ON JULY 22, 1942 AT SAINT LOUIS, MISSOURI. AFTER COMPLETING DIESEL SCHOOL AND AMPHIBIOUS OPERATIONS TRAINING, SERVED ABOARD THE USS LST (LANDING SHIP TANK) 373 IN THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. SAW CLOSE COMBAT AT THE ASSAULT LANDINGS ON D-DAY OF THE INVASIONS OF SICILY, ITALY AND NORMANDY. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A MOTOR MACHINIST’S MATE FIRST CLASS ON DECEMBER 17, 1945 AT THE NAVAL SEPARATION CENTER, SAINT LOUIS, MISSOURI.
