ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON SEPTEMBER 2, 1942 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. AFTER BASIC TRAINING AS A RIFLEMAN, ASSIGNED TO COMPANY H, 134TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 35TH INFANTRY 'SANTA FE' DIVISION AT CAMP BUTNER, NORTH CAROLINA. DEPARTED THE U.S. ON MAY 12, 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ENTERED COMBAT IN VICINITY OF MOON-SUR-ELLE, FRANCE ON JULY 11, 1944 AND FOUGHT THROUGH THE REST OF THE NORMANDY CAMPAIGN AND THE NORTHERN FRANCE, ARDENNES, RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. SERVED AS A SQUAD LEADER (MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY 1607). EARNED THE COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 SILVER BATTLE STAR AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A CORPORAL ON NOVEMBER 5, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS.
