ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON JUNE 17, 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. AFTER BASIC TRAINING, SPECIALIZED AS A AIRPLANE WOODWORKER (MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY 550) AND DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON DECEMBER 13, 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. SERVED WITH THE 1408TH ARMY AIR FORCES BASE UNIT, EUROPEAN DIVISION AIR TRANSPORT COMMAND OPERATING AT ORLY AIRFIELD, FRANCE BY SEPTEMBER 1944. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A CORPORAL ON APRIL 27, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP MCCOY, WISCONSIN.
