DURING THE WAR, SERVED WITH THE ARMY, ACHIEVING THE RANK OF PRIVATE 1ST CLASS. HE SAW COMBAT AS A RIFLEMAN IN EUROPE IN 2 MAJOR CAMPAIGNS WITH THE 411TH INFANTRY REGIMENT OF THE 103RD INFANTRY DIVISION. HE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE CAPTURE OF 7 GERMAN PRISONERS OF WAR. HE WAS SERIOUSLY WOUNDED NEAR CLIMBACH, FRANCE IN THE FALL OF 1944 BY AN 88 SHELL.
