IN 1943, HE VOLUNTEERED AS A PARATROOPER AND JOINED THE 82ND AIRBORNE DIVISION, SERVING IN THE AFRICAN, SICILIAN, AND ITALIAN CAMPAIGNS, AND PARACHUTED BEHIND ENEMY LINES AT DRAGUIGNAN, FRANCE AND IN BELGIUM, DURING THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE. HIS MEDALS INCLUDE THE BRONZE STAR, THE PURPLE HEART WITH TWO PALMS, AND THE YUGOSLAV WAR CROSS. HE WAS AIDE-DE-CAMP TO KING PETER II OF YUGOSLAVIA.
