Pursuing his dream to fly, he joined the Navy in 1943 and was commissioned an Ensign in March 1946. Served on the USS Coral Sea and USS Midway. On one tour, his engine failed and he water landed his plane into the Bay of Genoa in Italy. Awarded the American Defense Medal, WWII Victory Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon and the Bronze Star.
