Intelegence officer during WW2. Awarded Distingished Service Medal for his intelligence assessment that provided cruical warning of attacks. Was also Chief of Operations of the CIA.and Chief of Information for the dept. of the army from 1959 to 1961 before joining the Defense Intelligence Agency where he became Deputy Director. In 1964 he rose to the post of Commanding General of the 70th Infantry in Germany
