ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON OCTOBER 11, 1943 AT CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC AND QUALIFIED FOR THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF LIGHT TRUCK DRIVER (345). ASSIGNED TO COMPANY E, 1303RD ENGINEER GENERAL SERVICE REGIMENT, CORPS OF ENGINEERS, AT CAMP ELLIS, ILLINOIS. DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON MARCH 24, 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. SERVED IN COMBAT THROUGH THE NORMANDY, NORTHERN FRANCE, ARDENNES, RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. AFTER V-E DAY, DEPARTED THE EUROPEAN THEATER ON JUNE 23, 1945 TO REDEPLOY WITH HIS UNIT TO THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS FOR DUTY IN THE PHILIPPINE ISLANDS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 SILVER BATTLE STAR, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL, WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE PHILIPPINE LIBERATION MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE 1ST CLASS ON OCTOBER 20, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS.
