ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON 10 MARCH 1942 AT SCOTT FIELD, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND EVENTUALLY QUALIFIED FOR THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF TANK COMMANDER (1736). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON 11 FEBRUARY 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND FOUGHT WITH HEADQUARTERS, 1ST BATTALION, 32ND ARMORED REGIMENT, 3RD ARMORED ‘SPEARHEAD’ DIVISION, THROUGH THE NORMANDY, NORTHERN FRANCE, ARDENNES, RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 SILVER BATTLE STAR AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS CORPORAL ON 25 OCTOBER 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS.
