ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A NAVAL RESERVE APPRENTICE SEAMAN DRAFTEE ON SEPTEMBER 1, 1943. COMPLETED SEABEE TRAINING AT NAVAL CONSTRUCTION TRAINING CENTER, WILLIAMSBURG, VIRGINIA AND THEREAFTER CHEMICAL WEAPONS SCHOOL 20MM (GUN) SCHOOL AND .50 CALIBER MACHINE GUN SCHOOL. SERVED WITH CONSTRUCTION BATTALION MAINTENANCE UNITS 574 AND 554 IN THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS AND AT THE NAVAL CONSTRUCTION TRAINING CENTER, DAVISVILLE, RHODE ISLAND. EARNED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A CARPENTER’S MATE 2ND CLASS (AND QUALIFIED 1ST CLASS SURVEYOR) ON MARCH 6, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
