ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON MAY 13, 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF FIELD LINEMAN (641) AND ASSIGNED TO HEADQUARTERS COMPANY, 3RD BATTALION, 324TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 44TH INFANTRY DIVISION. DEPARTED THE U.S. WITH HIS UNIT ON SEPTEMBER 5, 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ENTERED FRANCE VIA CHERBOURG AND COMBAT ON OCTOBER 18, 1944. FOUGHT THROUGH NORTHERN FRANCE, RHINELAND, CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL, COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 3 BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A STAFF SERGEANT ON NOVEMBER 19, 1945 AT CAMP FANNIN, TEXAS.
