ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON 3 FEBRUARY 1942 AT SCOTT FIELD, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED AS A SPECIAL VEHICLE OPERATOR, MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY 932. SERVED AT VARIOUS BASES UNTIL DEPARTING THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON 27 JUNE 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. SERVED WITH THE 866TH AIR ENGINEERING SQUADRON AND PARTICIPATED IN THE NORMANDY, NORTHERN FRANCE, ARDENNES, RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 SILVER BATTLE STAR AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A CORPORAL ON 22 OCTOBER 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS.
