ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON 12 SEPTEMBER 1945 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED AS A RANGE SECTION OPERATOR, MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY (MOS) 1645. VOLUNTEERED FOR AND GRADUATED FROM ARMORED OFFICER CANDIDATE SCHOOL AT FORT KNOX, KENTUCKY ON 7 JUNE 1946. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE AND COMMISSIONED A SECOND LIEUTENANT THE NEXT DAY. DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON 5 AUGUST 1946 BOUND FOR THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO THE 5TH CAVALRY REGIMENT, SERVING AS A MOTOR TRANSPORTATION OFFICER (MOS 0600) AS PART OF THE ARMY OF OCCUPATION AT TOKYO, JAPAN. HONORABLY SEPARATED FROM ACTIVE DUTY ON 21 JUNE 1947 AT CAMP STONEMAN, CALIFORNIA. EARNED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE ARMY OF OCCUPATION MEDAL JAPAN AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.
