ENLISTED AS AN APPRENTICE SEAMAN ON 16 MAY 1946 AT EFFINGHAM, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BOOT CAMP AT NAVAL TRAINING STATION, GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS AND FURTHER COURSES AT NAVAL AMPHIBIOUS TRAINING BASE, LITTLE CREEK, VIRGINIA. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED ABOARD, IN TURN, THE ATTACK TRANSPORTS USS FREMONT (APA-44) AND THE USS OKANOGAN (APA-220). HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A SEAMAN SECOND CLASS ON 17 FEBRUARY 1948 AT NAVAL RECEIVING STATION, NORFOLK, VIRGINIA. EARNED THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL FOR HIS ACTIVE SERVICE DURING THE ELIGIBILITY PERIOD.
