ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON 7 MAY 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED AS A HEAVY TRUCK DRIVE, MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY 931. DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON 2 DECEMBER 1943 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. SERVED WITH UNKNOWN UNITS IN NON-COMBAT POSITIONS UNTIL ASSIGNED TO THE 112TH COMBAT ENGINEER BATTALION AND FOUGHT IN THE RHINELAND CAMPAIGN WITH THEM. EARNED THE MERITORIOUS UNIT AWARD, THE DISTINGUISHED UNIT BADGE, THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED FROM THE TRANSPORTATION CORPS AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON 30 DECEMBER 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS.
