Served with the 5th Marine Division in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. In February of 1945 he was deployed with his division to Iwo Jima. Was wounded in action on Iwo Jima. Shot by a sniper in the left arm and wounded in the hip from shrapnel. Awarded the Purple Heart, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal and the Rifle Expert Badge.
