ENLISTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON 19 NOVEMBER 1942 AT JEFFERSON BARRACKS, MISSOURI. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, THE SPECIAL ENGINEERING EQUIPMENT SCHOOL AND QUALIFIED AS A HEAVY TRUCK DRIVER, MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY 931. DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON 21 JUNE 1943 BOUND FOR THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH THE 1881ST ENGINEER AVIATION BATTALION (COMBAT-HEAVY) AND PARTICIPATED IN THE NEW GUINEA, BISMARCK-ARCHIPELAGO, LUZON AND SOUTHERN PHILIPPINES CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, THE MERITORIOUS UNIT SERVICE AWARD, THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 4 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE PHILIPPINE LIBERATION MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE STARS. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON 13 DECEMBER 1945 AT JEFFERSON BARRACKS, MISSOURI.
