ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE WITH THE MEDICAL DEPARTMENT AS A DRAFTEE ON 26 JANUARY 1944 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF COOK (060). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON 19 JULY 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH THE 103RD GENERAL HOSPITAL AT PERHAM DOWNS, JUST OUTSIDE OF LONDON, ENGLAND. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON 11 DECEMBER 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS.
